Works of God

And I thought the people I’d meet

would change me.

But then I learned

people don’t make people.

Rather, it is the sun

and if it shines,

deep waves, sea foam

and ocean tides

It is the hills or valleys

beneath my feet,

the dry earth

or rugged concrete

 –

Still I feared the people I’d meet

would change me.

But I grew wise,

saw God in nature’s subtle disguise.
