“The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
If you live your life never settling for where you are, that’s exactly what you’ll do: you will never settle for where you are as you continue to push forward and seek improvement in all aspects of your life. There are 3 parts to this mindset:
1. Remember your journey
Never take your journey for granted. It is yours and it is unique. On your path to your success thus far, I’m sure you’ve encountered failures and deviations. Yet, here you stand today. Appreciate your hardships for what they have been: catalysts for change leading to success.
2. Success is a process not a dream destination
We may strive for certain standards and a lifestyle in our dreams while omitting the minor details. Sometimes the small steps we refuse to take can accumulate to bigger leaps towards on our journey. When your hard work is rewarded by a success, our happiness tends to fade shortly after. We complain because without X we can’t enjoy Y as much. In a way, that’s successful because we are never settling for the least and striving towards improvement. This motivation is great as long as we keep in mind that success is a process and each minor step is a stepping stone forming our path (life).
3. Set 3 month goals!
Now a more practical goal: set goals at 3 month intervals. Trust me, this works! I’ve tried this with fitness routines, my work and educational life, and it’s been a huge success. Where do you want to be 3 months from now? Writing down your goals and even speaking to others of them is a good way to keep yourself accountable. Find an inspiring network of people that will always challenge you and ask “how’s the new diet going” or “how’s your new salsa class.” Set an alarm 3 months away and conduct your self-check-up. For a more effective method, I suggest setting reminders once a month until you reach the end of your 3 months. Goals are important. Start your 3 months today!
